Child Protection (CAS Cases)

I accept Legal Aid certificates for eligible cases and private retainers

Child protection cases can move quickly and can affect the most critical parts of your life: your children, your home, and your future. If the Children’s Aid Society is involved, it is essential to get clear advice early and to build a plan that is realistic, evidence-based, and centred on the child’s safety and well-being.

My practice focuses on representation for parents, caregivers, and family members in child protection proceedings under Ontario’s Child, Youth and Family Services Act.

Common issues in child protection cases

  • Investigations, home visits, and safety plans

  • Court applications and urgent protection hearings

  • Supervision orders and terms (including conditions and services)

  • Temporary care and access arrangements

  • Motions, conferences, settlements, and trials

  • Placement planning, including kinship options where appropriate

  • Evidence preparation (affidavits, responding materials, disclosure review)

How I approach these cases

I work with clients in a direct, respectful, and structured way. I will help you understand:

  • what the CAS is alleging and what evidence supports it;

  • what the court can order (and what it cannot);

  • what options exist for resolution, including negotiated outcomes; and

  • what steps can strengthen your position in a practical, child-focused way.

Where possible, I pursue resolution strategies that reduce conflict and keep the focus on safety and stability. When litigation is required, I prepare carefully and advocate firmly.
